A/U Ranches
Investments in the future of Adventure Unlimited through its Bridges to the Future Campaign have now reached 98% of the $16.5 million goal. In particular, progress has been made in two areas at the A/U Ranches and in DiscoveryBound.
Frank Scott was a camper at the A/U Ranches when he was a kid. As an adult, he stopped attending church due to heavy work commitments. Two years ago his brother, Bill Scott, encouraged him to start taking his 13-year-old daughter, Juliette, to Sunday School so she could come to camp. Here is Juliette’s story.
The A/U Ranches are buzzing with the exciting news: First steps have been taken to construct a new administrative building to replace the much-loved Hub.
Did you know that the A/U Ranches is open during the non-summer months? Some times of the year you can pretty much have the place to yourself, apart from a few deer! It’s called 100 Elk Events at the A/U Ranches, and we are ready to host your next corporate retreat, wedding, family reunion – even a small family vacation.
Forty chairs, made of a combination of cedar and a hardwood, will be available for a tax-deductible donation of $400 each. They’ll include the A/U Ranches logo on the back and a custom message engraved across the seat front. These durable chairs will also replace the plastic versions that blow away in strong winds.
Many campers in the A/U Ranches Horsemanship program will tell you – and their parents will confirm this – that their skills on horseback developed significantly through their participation. In fact, this program has been taking riders to the next level of skill and accomplishment for decades.
My first time on a horse was at a state fair when I was around two or three years old. The horse’s name was Mister Ed, and I insisted on riding him all by myself without my mom holding me. I was immediately hooked!
Camp has been my way of measuring growth over the years, the various horses I rode acting as trail markers throughout my life. My most significant friendships have been formed at camp, important lessons have been learned at camp, and the best parts of myself were discovered and established while at camp.
What was the name of your horse at camp? What was your favorite activity with him or her? Come share your experience with fellow wranglers at the A/U Ranches this August at the Wrangler Reunion, held during Adult Mini Camp. We’d love to introduce you to the next generation of horses!
Jeni and I took a few minutes recently to ask ourselves what it has meant to be able to give our time, treasure and talent to Adventure Unlimited – what is it that got us going, kept us going and has us excited for this year of service to the organization?
