My Inspiration and Adoring New Friendships from DiscoveryBound
By Melissa Kelly
I learned about the DiscoveryBound Outreach adult trip to Nantucket and Cape Cod from my sister. My grandparents had owned a house on Nantucket, and I spent summers there as a child. I had never been to Cape Cod, but first and foremost, I had never been on a DiscoveryBound trip! It sounded like a fun and wonderful continuation from a no doubt inspiring Annual Meeting at The Mother Church just days before.
My only concern before this trip was that I had hoped the experience would be metaphysically based, rather than just people getting together because they attended the same church. Boy, did I get what I was hoping for! The sincerity and honesty of the other guests and our trip hosts were truly inspiring! It created such a warm and welcoming atmosphere. There was such an interest in each other as we listened to and shared metaphysical ideas, either in large groups or one-on-one.
Prior to this trip, I had been working with the idea that true employment is in being God’s reflection and expressing His qualities to and throughout His loving creation. I found within this trip and these fellow church members a welcoming space where I could just be myself, be God’s reflection.
During this trip, I chose to act as if I knew I was God’s idea (because I am!) and to give unselfishly – and what made this trip so special is that I saw everybody else doing that exact same thing!
I came home with a definite shift in my thinking – away from a feeling that I had to, through prayer or human footsteps, solidify my career to a greater understanding that I was already in my true career of being God’s idea and expression always! That understanding naturally leads to a greater trust in God and a willingness to accept unexpected, wonderful things to unfold according to God’s desires for me, God’s timing, and God’s good will for me, because that’s what God naturally does for each one of us! This trip was proof of God’s unfoldment of good in my life and I am sincerely grateful.
During this trip, deep and meaningful friendships were made, built on the solid foundation of our love for God and on our practice of Christian Science. A group of us women, whom I now adore, are planning to walk the Camino de Santiago in Spain together next year. What a trip that will be, with the focus on Christian Science and God’s love for His creation!
The DiscoveryBound trip was truly a joy. I experienced new places, and a place I hadn’t been to since I was a teenager, with new friends and inspired conversations, which was a wonder. I am so grateful to have said yes to this trip just weeks before and had the opportunity to experience that a DiscoveryBound trip is boundless in opportunities for growth in Christian Science. I am truly grateful!
