Family Camp: Reconnecting with Each Other β and with God

I remember seeing the A/U Ranches for the first time as a 12-year-old attending Family Camp. I was so impressed with its beauty and the warmth of the counselors. My siblings were college age, but both they and the counselors went out of their way to make me feel like one of the gang β a heady experience for a 7th-grader!
More than 20 years later, I wanted to bring my husband and young children to experience the joy of the A/U Ranches. My husband had never been there and I was excited to share it with him. I must admit, I was thrilled (but not too surprised) when he fell in love with Family Camp and rushed to sign us up for the following summer.
The Pechecks (who are the five on the right, pictured here in 2009 with extended family) have been attending Family Camp for 14 years.
We’ve been attending Family Camp for 14 years now, and all of us look forward to that week in August as a time to reconnect with each other and with God. Over the years, other family members have come as well. My brother-in-law started joining us every year, and twice we’ve had a family reunion during Family Camp β something I highly recommend. Everyone has a wonderful time, and no one does any dishes. Family Camp also provided a great transition for our children to attend Youth Camp, since it was already a second home by the time they were old enough to attend on their own.
We are attending yet again this summer! Our oldest, who was 7 years old when we began attending, is now 20, and will be joining us from his internship in Washington, D.C., along with our daughter (currently a counselor-in-training) and our younger son (a camper).
We can’t wait for August!
