60 Years of A/U – Planning the Celebration!

welcome home

Mark your calendars!

The planning has begun for Adventure Unlimited’s 60th anniversary celebration to be held mid-August, 2015. We are getting so excited!

A few things have changed since Sky Valley Ranch opened to boys in 1955 and Round-Up Ranch for girls in 1959. Campers no longer peak mountains wearing jeans, the rafts have self-bailing floors, and wranglers are lining up to play polocrosse. Over the past six decades, the Adventure Unlimited and DiscoveryBound programs have evolved to meet the needs and interests of the day, but our mission – “Opening Window to God” – remains timeless.

John “Cap” and Marianne Andrews envisioned a summer camp where boys and girls would be challenged, inspired, and learn to trust in God. The spiritual growth, fellowship, and memories gained at A/U are shared by generations of campers, counselors, directors, and volunteers. A desire to bring camp home and share these experiences with others led to the creation of the A/U Chapter program in 1965, which became the DiscoveryBound program in 2001.

The Adventure Unlimited and DiscoveryBound programs have evolved to meet the needs and interests of the day, but our mission – “Opening Window to God” – remains timeless.

In 2005, almost 500 alumni came to the Ranches to celebrate the 50th anniversary with the theme, “Rediscover the Adventure.” The A/U-DB Alumni Facebook Group has reached 1,451 members, but we know that there are many, many more alumni out there. Wherever they are, whatever they are doing, we want all alumni to feel embraced by the A/U family and celebrate this milestone.

Plans for the 60th reunion are already in motion, and over the coming months and year the National Alumni Board will be reaching out to our fellow alumni for help in organizing the event.

We can’t wait to see Y’all in 2015!
